INTRODUCTION

Monday Night Football brings an exciting clash between two teams playing in the Champions League this season as Valencia hosts the visit of Atletico Madrid to the Mestella Stadium. After two bad seasons, Valencia returned to their very best and now after entering the Champions League once again they are also targetting the La Liga title. VALENCIA

They are back at the very top of the La Liga together with the likes of Barcelona, ATM and Real Madrid where they have been missing after several years now. Last season manager Marcelino's side started the season well and they were competing with Barcelona at the top, but later on they fell behind but they never dropped to fourth in the standings where they eventually finished. Not contend with last season's fourth place finish, they decided to bring in two new strikers in the form of Batshuayi and Gameiro, as well as Russian striker Cheryshev. They also brought in Piccini and Diakhabye to improve their defence, while Wass have been brought into midfield. They also bought the contract for Kondogbia and they are planning to do the same for Guedes. As for the team news, they will play most likely with the same team as last season rather then start with the new players in their first match.



ATLETICO MADRID

They started their season with a good showing in the European Super Cup by beating city rivals Real Madrid. They had a very good start after Costa scored the fastest goal in the European Super Cup history. However, later on they were behind against Real Madrid, but once again Costa came to their rescue and scored his second goal and they ended 2-2 in normal time. Then in extra time Atletico Madrid won by 4-2 and in that way they made up for losing in the two Champions League final to Real Madrid previously. Even though Manager Simone was suspended, he still sent their strongest team to the field where Savic was stopper instead of Gimenez, while L. Hernandez played on the left flank and not Filipe Luis, who usually plays in that position. Lemar who was their biggest reinforcement this summer also got a chance to play, but he did not impressed just as their top scorer last season Griezmann. As for the team news ahead of this match, now L. Hernandez is suspended, which means that Filipe Luis will play on the left flank. Gimenez could also get a chance to play and that is likely to be the only changes.



PAST MEETINGS

Last season it ended as a goalless draw at the Mestalla Stadium, but two seasons before that they lost twice to ATM at home.
