TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Winning the opening fixture of the new Premier League season was a huge boost for Tottenham Hotspur and the fans who were wondering why there hadn't been any new signings made by the club in the summer transfer window. It hasn't been all good news for the club who announced they are going to have to shift at least two more 'home' League games to Wembley Stadium after delays to 'New White Hart Lane'. On Saturday Tottenham Hotspur will be playing at Wembley Stadium as expected when they host Fulham in their first 'home' game of the new campaign. They did drop from 17 League wins in their final season at White Hart Lane to 13 League wins last season, but the move to Wembley Stadium did not have a significant impact on Tottenham Hotspur who should be comfortable in the national stadium for at least the next couple of months. Tottenham Hotspur have won 4 of their last 5 Premier League games since their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup Semi Final. They have won 10 of their last 13 games at Wembley Stadium with the exceptions all coming in defeats to Juventus, Manchester City and Manchester United. Victor Wanyama, Erik Lamela and Heung-Min Son are absent through injury or representing their country at the Asian Games. Eric Dier and Lucas Moura should be passed fit, while Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose are working their way back to full fitness.

FULHAM

The one big lesson most clubs learn when moving from the Championship to the Premier League is that you will be punished if you don't take your chances at this level. That was something Fulham will understand a little more after playing well enough but falling to a 0-2 defeat to Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage on the opening weekend of the season. Games like that will have been targeted by Slavisa Jokanovic to help make a positive start to life back in the Premier League, but the manager will also be someone who won't want to panic after one defeat. They will have nothing to lose when returning to Wembley Stadium on Saturday, while Fulham did win 12 of their 23 away games in the Championship last season. Fulham have lost 3 of their last 5 games in all competitions, but importantly the two exceptions came in the Championship Play Offs and saw the club return to the top flight. They had been unbeaten in 10 away games in all competitions and had won 7 of those games, but Fulham were beaten at Birmingham City and Derby County in their last couple of games on their travels. Tim Ream and Joe Bryan are both doubts for this fixture, while Alfie Mawson and Denis Odoi are ruled out through injury and suspension.

HEAD TO HEAD

Tottenham Hotspur last played Fulham at Craven Cottage in 2017 in the FA Cup and ended up with a 0-3 win. Tottenham Hotspur have won 5 of their last 6 home games in all competitions including a 3-1 victory over them in the 2013/14 season.

PREDICTION

A London derby will be played at Wembley Stadium on Saturday in the Premier League as Tottenham Hotspur fans get used to playing in the national stadium for at least a couple of months. The delay to the move to the 'New White Hart Lane' is a bother to the club in general as they have to scramble to book venues to play their League and Champions League fixtures coming up, but the players will be focused on events on the field. They showed they can do that after a positive 1-2 win at Newcastle United last weekend and Tottenham Hotspur have some returning players to boost the squad ahead of this one. The form at Wembley Stadium was decent enough from Tottenham Hotspur, especially down the stretch, to think they won't be too bothered about having to play their next few 'home' games here. Fulham also have some fond memories of playing at Wembley Stadium having secured their Premier League status with a 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the Championship Play Off Final in May. The 0-2 defeat to Crystal Palace has shown how difficult the move to the Premier League will be for any club coming up from the Championship and it will be tough for Fulham to respond with a really positive result here. In the last couple of seasons Tottenham Hotspur have been particularly dominant when hosting clubs in the bottom half of the table. They have won 9 of 10 against those clubs in each of the last couple of years and Tottenham Hotspur have enough attacking quality to win this one with some room to spare. 17 of their 30 Premier League wins over the last two seasons have come by at least a two goal margin for Tottenham Hotspur and I think they will have a little too much for a Fulham team who are missing some key players. Fulham could play their part against a Tottenham Hotspur team who did have a couple of defensive mistakes in them last week, but I will back the home team on the Asian Handicap to win this fixture by at least two goals on the day.
