INTRODUCTION

No doubt this is one of the interesting matches of the English Championships which kicks off today. Sheffield United finished tenth in the Championships last season, while Swansea was relegated to the second division from the Premier League after spending seven years in the top flight.

Last season they finished in tenth spot after returning to the Championships the previous season. Only six points separates them from positions that lead to the promotion play-off so no doubt that manager Wilder was happy with how his players performed in the Championships in their first season. So his main objective was to keep most of their regular startes from last season and he succeeded with that as only the likes of goalkeeper Blackman, midfielder Brooks and striker Donaldson left the team. It was not a serious problem as they mostly stayed on the bench and were not first team regulars. In return they brought in four new players this season, the likes of goalkeeper Henderson, stoppers Egan and Bryan, and winger Woodburn into the side. As for the team news, only defender Freeman will miss this match as he is out injured.



SWANSEA CITY

After seven years in the top flight, they were relegated last season. They ended the previous season losing their last five games, so it was not a surprise they ended in 18th place in the Premier League. They had several chances to avoid relegation but it was the defeat at home to Southampton, which was showdown between candidates for relegation decided their fate. With the relegation that also meant that Portuguese coach Carvalhal was not kept in the side. In turn they decided to bring in English manager Potter who made good results with Swedish side Ostersunds last season in the Swedish Allsvenskan. There was still a mass exodus of players and the likes of goalkeeper Fabianski, defenders Bartley and Rangel, midfielders Sanches, Ki Sung-Yong, King and Britton, and strikers A. Ayew and Abraham departed the side, while midfielder Celin and strikers Asoro and McKay were the only onces that came in. As for the team news, striker Bony is out injured.
