READING

Paul Clement has to be cursing some of the bad luck Reading have had in their first couple of Championship games, but he will also be feeling under some pressure to get the club moving in a positive direction. The last thing anyone associated with Reading wants is another battle against relegation having barely escaped the drop into League One last season. Clement will suggest the performances are an indication of better results to come after seeing his Reading team beaten in injury time by Derby County and then narrowly losing at Nottingham Forest last weekend. The 2-0 win over Birmingham City in the League Cup will have given Reading a confidence boost ahead of their second League game at the Majedski Stadium where they only won 5 of 23 League games last season. Reading had not won any of 7 games going back to last season and they had lost 5 of those before the victory over Birmingham City in the League Cup First Round. They had lost back to back games at home from the end of last season to the opening of the new campaign but The Royals snapped that mini-sequence with the win in the League Cup.

BOLTON WANDERERS

There were two teams that many picked as being part of the three that would be relegated out of the Championship at the end of this season, but Bolton Wanderers are showing they perhaps have more than people were expecting. A win on the last day allowed them to remain in the Championship last season and Phil Parkinson's men have used the momentum gained to make a positive start to this one. Losing to Leeds United in the League Cup First Round won't be too much of a concern for Bolton Wanderers especially after earning 4 points to open the season with a win at West Brom and a home draw with Bristol City. The win at West Brom must have felt like a big bonus to manager Parkinson considering Bolton Wanderers won just 1 of 23 away League games last season. Bolton Wanderers had lost 6 of 7 games in the Championship before beating Nottingham Forest to avoid relegation, but their 3 game unbeaten run across three months came to an end in the defeat at Elland Road during the week. They have only won 1 of their last 12 away games in all competitions and Bolton Wanderers have been beaten 7 times in that run of fixtures.

HEAD TO HEAD

Reading and Bolton Wanderers drew both League games against the other last season with the game here finishing 1-1. Reading are unbeaten in 4 at the Majedski Stadium against Bolton Wanderers and have won half of those games.

PREDICTION

You have to feel a little sorry for Reading who should have more points than the zero they currently sit on in the early Championship table. A bit better fortune and you would think Reading could have as many as the 4 points Bolton Wanderers have earned and it is a big game for Paul Clement to try and get things turned around for his Reading team. The win over Birmingham City in the League Cup will help the confidence and also keep the fans behind the players and I do think Reading follow that up with a victory this weekend. All credit to Bolton Wanderers for winning at a tough ground like The Hawthorns to earn the majority of their 4 points, but they travelled poorly last season and I can't think Phil Parkinson has got things turned around 180 degrees since then. Reading have shown enough in their opening games to think they will improve on the 5 home League wins they earned in the 2017/18 season, but they have to take their chances when they come. With that in mind it could be a tighter match as Bolton Wanderers may have slightly more confident, but I will back Reading on the Asian Handicap which will return half the stake in the event of a draw.
