INTRODUCTION

Neither team played at the World Cup in Russia, but they both played in the previous big competitions as Bosnia and Herzegovina played at the World Cup in Brazil, while Northern Ireland played at the European Championships in France. Norther Ireland was close to reaching the World Cup in Russia as they played in the playoffs but lost to Switzerland, while Bosnia and Herzegovina only managed to finished third in their group.



NORTHERN IRELAND

Northern Ireland has failed to qualify for the second consecutive big competition as they missed out on the World Cup in Russia recently. They were stopped in the playoffs by Switzerland. They managed to get into the European Championship in France back in 2016, and they did not embarassed themselves in that competition. Now they will be looking at this League of Nation to get a place in the European Championship. After the last World Cup qualifiers, they only played three friendly matches and they beat South Korea 2-1, and then they played against Panama and Costa Rica on their summer tour through Central America, but they did not have their strongest side then. They played a goalless draw with Panama, and then they lost to Costa Rica by 3-0. Now they do not have Captain Brunt, while Dallas is injured. Other then that the players who did not play their American tour will now be back in the side.



BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA

Since managing to get to the finals of the World Cup in Brazil, they have since failed to qualify for two big competitions. That was the European Championships in France and the recent World Cup in Russia. Now they will set their sights on the European Championship. Those great players that brought them to Brazil 2014, is no longer in the side and for the players who are still in the side, this will be their last tournament - the League of Nations. They also have a new coach in coach Robert Prosinecki. He made his debut in their friendly matches where they did not have their best players available. Now he will have his strongets side available who are fit and have been called up to serve the national side. The likes of Ibisevic, Lulic, Spahic and Medunjanin have since retired from the national team. The likes of Kolosinac, have not been called up due to injury, while goalkeeper Begovic has not been called up as well. Bickcic and Vranjes are out of the side due to injuries, while their hopes will be on Pjanic and Dzeko.
