INTRODUCTIOS
Stefanos Tsitsipas continues to surprise and he is now in the final and will face favourite.
RAFAEL NADAL
Nadal is still the world's ranked number 1 player and no doubt he fully justified his ranking to reach the final. He is in good form and managed to reach the final where he did not allow lower ranked opponents to get the better of him, which has happened to some other opponents in this tournament. In the semi final, he beat K. Kachanov without dropping a set. Despite that it was by no means an easy match for him as in the first set there were two breaks, where each player managed a break, however Nadal came out as the winner. In the second set, the Spaniard consolidated his service and Kachanov had no chance to make a break, so Nadal made his place in the final. In terms of the statistics, Nadal had served better 71% – 66%, while Kachanov was expectedly better only in number of aces 6-2. In his previous appearance at the ATP Toronto he was eliminated in the third round, and altogether he won three titles in this tournament in his career.
TSITSIPAS
For what the young Greek player has shown, he deserves to be applauded for reaching the final at the ATP Toronto. After reaching the final of 1000 Series tournament Tsitsipas could now be ranked inside the Top 100 players in the world despite just being 19-years old. No doubt it is a big achievement for him regardless if he fails to beat Nadal as the Greek player can only benefit from it. Enroute to the final, the young Greek player managed to defeat the likes of N. Djokovic, A. Zverev and K. Anderson. Along the course of the way still it has to be said that his opponents contributed to his route to the final with some poor performances. Djokovic played below par in his match with Tsitsipas, while Zverev had match point and two more in the tie-break but failed to convert it, and Anderson also failed to convert the match point in the third set.
PAST MEETINGS
They have met once, and that happened in Barcelona this year. Nadal won by 6-2 and 6-1, which makes him a favourite to win again today, although Tsitsipas chances are much better now given that the tournament in Toronto is played on hard surface.
