INTRODUCTION

This is the clash between Medvedev and Daniel in the semi finals as they contest to reach the final of ATP tournament at Winston-Salem



MEDVEDEV

Medvedev is one of the youngest Russian tennis players at only 22 years of age. Since last year he reached 48th in the ATP rankings, but since then he has not progressed much further. Since then his rankings has dropped and he comes into this tournament as the 57th player in the ATP rankings. This season his win and loss ratio is at 20 wins and 17 defeats. This season he did win an ATP title at the tournament in Sydney, where he managed to defeat the title holder A. de Minaur in the final. After that he did had a good showing at the tournament in Rotterdam where he reached the quarter finals but he was stopped by A. Seppi. In the other of his tournaments he never made it past the third round.



DANIEL

Danile is a Japanese player and he is slightly older then Russian Medvedev. Four days ago he reached his best ranking in the world when he reached 76th in the ATP rankings. Despite that he still has a negative win/loss ratio as he has 11 wins and 12 defeats this season. This season he has won his first ATP title at the tournament in Istanbul, where he managed to defeat M. Jaziri in the final. Interestingly if he take a close look at the tournaments he has participated in, he has mostly chosen tournaments on the clay surface where he has managed to achieve the best results. However on the hard surface like this tournament in Winston-Salem, he has not impressed much. Thus reaching the semi finals has been his best performance on the hard surface.

Two years ago they have met twice in the Challenger in Bordeaux, and Medvedev won after two sets.
