Eintracht Braunschweig surprisingly dropped out from the 2.Bundesliga last season and now they are struggling in the 3.Liga. They have failed to win in any of their first four 3.Liga games so far, recording three draws and one defeat. Many players left Eintracht Braunschweig in the recent months and now they will likely go through a painful process of rebuilding. Finances are definitely an issue, as the club failed to get any good reinforcements this summer. Regarding their recent games against Hertha Berlin, Eintracht Braunschweig have faced the team from Berlin five times since 2012 and have not won in any of those five games. They lost four matches and one game ended in a draw. Their most recent duel was played back in 2016 when Hertha Berlin won with 1-2 in a friendly game.

Hertha Berlin`s last season was a season to forget as they were constantly going up and down between 8th and 14th spot on the Bundesliga table. They were very average side, but one of the reasons for their poor last season was because they played in Europa League and that obviously exhausted the team. Anyhow, Hertha Berlin are starting this new season in good spirits as they managed to keep the majority of their top players and signed a few new ones. They will have one of the youngest teams in the Bundesliga and Salomon Kalou will once again be their leader. Hertha Berlin did a good job by signing the relatively unknown player Pascal Kopke from Erzgebirge Aue, but those that closely follow the 2.Bundesliga will remember that Kopke was one of the best scorers last season, scoring 10 goals and providing 8 goal assists for Erzgebirge Aue.



THE BETTING VERDICT

There is big difference in quality between these two sides. The first round of cup competition is always tricky game for every team involved, but it is hard to see Eintracht Braunschweig getting something here. Eintracht Braunschweig played very poorly in their four winless games in the 3.Liga, while Hertha Berlin have kept their main players from last season and hope they can go deep in this competition. Odds on the away victory are better than expected, so taking Hertha Berlin to win is my recommendation for this match.
