INTRODUCTION

Novak Djokovic needed three sets to overcome Marin Cilic 6-4 3-6 6-3 to reach his sixth Cincinnati Masters final on Saturday, while Roger Federer had a much easier route after his opponent David Goffin retired through a shoulder injury. In the first set Federer won by 7- 6(3) before Goffin took a short break for treatment from his trainer. Then in the second set it was 1-1 before Goffin decided to call it quits.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC

Djokovic will be aiming to win after losing all of his previous five finals in the Cincinnati Tournament. He was also not at his best in a match that lasted two hours and 32 minutes against Cilic. Still he was glad to have reached the final after having had delays with the weather in recent matches. He was glad to have pulled through with very few points deciding the winner. After he lost the second set, he went 3-1 up in the decider before complaining to the chair umpire about music that was audible from outside of the centre court. That distraction broke Djokovic's concentration as he immediately went down 0-40 on serve before clawing his way back to deuce. However his lost the game with a weak second serve to the net. Still Djokovic broke back in the eighth game before serving out clinically to secure the win.

ROGER FEDERER

In his semi final clash against Goffin, Federer was quick to admit that he was unaware of his injury that the opponent had been carrying other then he realised that his opponent was not serving very big. So no doubt that Federer was happy he was on court for a much shorter time after his epic quarter final clash with Stan Wawrinka which went until after midnight, and in which he won by 6-7, 7-6 and 6-2. Speaking ahead of the final, Federer admits his clash with Djokovic there is a lot at stake. Despite being mentally and physically tired he wants to win his 99th title and stop Djokovic from winning his first ever Cincinnati title as he has lost all five previous finals in this tournament.

PAST MEETINGS

Djokovic has a 23-22 head-to-head edge against Federer, but Federer has won all three of their Cincinnati final meetings.
