Chievo finished last season in 14th place on 40 points, 5 clear of the bottom 3 in what they would regard as a successful campaign. Having finished 14th in 16/17 too, Chievo look set for another season fighting the drop but should ultimately stay up. Lorenzo D'Anna’s side finished last season with a form line of 3-0-2 winning the expected goals (xG) supremacy in 2/5 which is ok. Going forward Chievo have finished with over 1.50 xG in 1/5 which is poor. At the back during this period they have conceded on average 1.37 xG which isn’t too bad for a side down in the bottom half of the table. At home it's 2-2-1 in the last 5 Serie A games winning the xG supremacy in 1/5. I Mussi Volanti have finished with over 1.50 xG for in 0/5 which is awful. Defensively, they have averaged 0.98 xG against which is strong.



JUVENTUS

Juventus were pushed deep into the season last time around but still went on to lift the Scudetto. Having signed Cristiano Ronaldo in the Summer and main rivals Napoli appearing to be weaker this time around, Serie A looks ominously poised for another Juve win. Massimiliano Allegri’s side finished last season with a form line of 3-1-1 winning the expected goals (xG) supremacy in 3/5 which is low for Juventus’s standards. La Vecchia Signora going forward finished with over 1.50 xG for in 2/5 which is ok. At the back during this period they have conceded on average 0.72 xG which is sensational. Away from home it's 0-1-4 in the last 5 Serie A games losing the last 2 and winning the xG supremacy in 4/5. Juventus have finished with over 1.50 xG for in 1/5 which is poor. Defensively, they have averaged 0.69 xG against which is outstanding particularly when playing away from home.



BETTING VERDICT

I will take under 2.75 goals. Chievo will be very motivated in front of their home fans on opening day. Playing Juventus In this spot when the Champions may not be fully up to speed is a bonus and I expect a low scoring affair. Juventus have an exceptional defence and look primed to keep a clean sheet. Chievo have poor xG stats going forward and will look to play deep throughout. At the other end, Juve have a lot of attacking talent but their xG going forward isn’t great. They chances they are creating are not of a high quality. The Chievo defence isn’t too bad and so long as they don’t concede early this looks a routine 0-1/0-2 kind of game for the visitors.
