ASTON VILLA

The 100% start to the new season is over for Steve Bruce and his Aston Villa team, but the fans will be glad to have seen the players have been able to bounce back from the Championship Play Off Final defeat. New investors have made it clear Aston Villa deserve to be playing in the Premier League at the end of this season and they have made sure Bruce has been able to put a squad together that will be expected to go at least one better than last season. On Saturday Aston Villa were unable to beat ten man Ipswich Town and had to settle for a 1- 1 draw but they have earned a solid 7 points from the opening three games of the Championship season and progressed through to the League Cup Second Round. This is only the second game at Villa Park this season after Aston Villa scored late on to beat Wigan Athletic 3-2. Aston Villa have only lost 2 of their last 12 games in all competitions but the one that would have hurt the most was the 0-1 defeat to Fulham at Wembley Stadium at the end of May. They did not win any of their final 2 home games at the end of last season, but Aston Villa were able to come from 1-2 down to beat Wigan Athletic in their only game at Villa Park this season.



BRENTFORD

'Moneyball' has inspired Brentford Football Club and the system is in place and will continue to be the main method in which the club operates. In recent years there have been times when it looks like it could be good enough to guide Brentford through to the Premier League and they have made a very good start under Dean Smith in the 2018/19 season which suggests a top six finish is the minimum they can achieve. A move to a new Stadium is fast approaching for Brentford and there was a feeling they could have earned a Play Off spot last season if they had not started so poorly twelve months ago. That was clearly something Dean Smith has considered and he has refused to let the players begin slowly this time around with 7 points earned from the first three games and also having won a League Cup First Round tie. Brentford have only lost 1 of their last 14 games in all competitions and they have won 7 of those which will have given them the belief they can surprise this season. They had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Stoke City in their sole away League game, but Brentford won 2-4 at Southend United in the League Cup. The Bees are unbeaten in 5 away games in all competitions and they have won 3 of those games.



HEAD TO HEAD

Brentford took four points from Aston Villa last season with the game at Villa Park ending goalless between these clubs. Aston Villa have only hosted Brentford 6 times in their history, but they have won just 2 of those games and the last 3 have all ended in draws.



PREDICTION

Two unbeaten teams meet on Wednesday evening in the Championship and both Aston Villa and Brentford have to be very pleased with the starts they have made to the new season. It is actually quite hard to separate these clubs, which may surprise some, but the layers have cottoned on to how close Aston Villa and Brentford are and so there are some big prices in the win-draw-win market. Both teams have shown they have goals in the side and that is something that does interest me- with the attacking players on show I think there will be a few more goals than in the goalless draw between Aston Villa and Brentford when they played at Villa Park in the 2017/18 season. I did consider both teams to score to be my play with the 1-1 scoreline a bit of a worry, but I also think both teams are playing with confidence and won't settle for that. At prices that have almost reached odds against quotes, I will back at least three goals to be shared out by these teams on Wednesday.
