INTRODUCTION

The second round of the Spanish Football Cup will be between Zaragoza and Deportivo La Coruna which takes place in Aragon. No doubt this is one of the most interesting matches of the second round and we will concentrate on this match. Zaragoza has been in Segunda Liga for years now, while last season they were in the playoff for a place in the La Liga in which Deportivo was relegated last season. Now both teams will be battling to be at the top of Segunda standings and they are both doing well at the start of the season as both sides are unbeaten after four games played.



ZARAGOZA

They started the season in great fashion and they hope they can do as well as last season and that means to at least qualify for the playoffs for the La Liga. Their target is to still finish in the top two for an automatic placement which will enable them to go directly to the elite division. Zaragoza do not want to repeat the mistake of failing at the last hurdle, which is at the playoffs like last season, when Numancia beat them in the playoffs and now for the Cup they do not have strong ambitions as in the league. This season they will be led by coach Imanol Idiakez and under his guidance they still have not lost any matches. In their first four matches they made two wins and two draws. Their best match was played last weekend when they beat Oviedo by 4-0 last weekend. They are still without their best goal scorer from last season Borje Iglesias, so now Alvaro Vazquez is their new striker from Espanyol in their attack.



DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA

After they were eliminated from La Liga last season it was not surprise thet they underwent major changes in the side. They also have a new coach in Natxo Gonzalez to guide them now. Deportivo started their new life in Segunda with one aim and that is to return to La Liga as soon as possible. They have lost the likes of their entire last line in the form of Juanfran, Sidnei, Schar and Luisinho, as well as midfeidlers Guillherme and Borges and striker Andon. They have brought a lot of new players in the team and for now they have adapted well to the team and coach Gonzalez deserves credit for blending them together. They have not lost any matches thus far and three games they played away as guests. They made two draws and a win over Extremadura, before the first home match and a win over Sporting Gijon. They were lucky to score the only goal of the match through Pablo Mari which came in the fourth minute of injury time. Before that midfielder Moreno failed to convert a penalty and they also had more players in the match also after Sporting Gijon was reduced to 10 players when Isaac Cofie was sent off in the 75th minute.

The last time they met was back in 2014, and Deportivo won in Zaragoza by 1-0.
