YEOVIL TOWN

The last three years have been very difficult for Yeovil Town after falling from the Championship down to League Two in consecutive seasons. They have barely found a way to avoid dropping out of the Football League completely in the three seasons back down in League Two and another tough season looks to be in the offing for Darren Way and his players. Some of the Cup competitions have given the fans something to cheer about in the last couple of years including Yeovil Town having a strong run in the EFL Trophy when they were beaten in the Semi Final by League One Shrewsbury Town. It has not been the case in the League Cup though as Yeovil Town have lost 5 of their 6 ties in this competition. Yeovil Town have not won any of their last 10 games going back to last season and that includes both played in the 2018/19 campaign. They have lost 6 of those 10 games and Yeovil Town have also had a tough time at Huish Park where they have lost 5 of their last 7 games. However Yeovil Town did earn a 2-2 draw with Mansfield Town on Saturday.

ASTON VILLA

Steve Bruce has retained the support of the new owners of Aston Villa and the ambition to get this club back into the Premier League as soon as possible remains. They managed to hold onto Jack Grealish for the upcoming season, although the player was unhappy, and Aston Villa have made a positive start to the campaign having come from behind to each of their two League games. The experience the manager has is important for Aston Villa and the Championship is going to be the big focus for the club throughout this season especially with how competitive the Division is. Even with the same focus as they would have had twelve months ago, Aston Villa did manage to work their way through to the League Cup Third Round and they won ties against lower League clubs Colchester United and Wigan Athletic. Aston Villa were beaten in the Play Off Final at the end of May and they lost some big name players following that campaign, but the current squad have rallied together to beat Hull City and Wigan Athletic while scoring three times in each win. The side have won 3 of their last 4 away games in all competitions going back to last season. There will be changes made to the majority of Championship clubs playing in the League Cup First Round and Aston Villa won't be any different.

HEAD TO HEAD

This is the first time Yeovil Town and Aston Villa will have met in a competitive fixture.

PREDICTION

I cannot emphasise enough the need to restrict units placed on matches in the early Rounds of the League Cup when so many clubs will play weakened teams as they look to give all of their players a run out. Aston Villa will be no different having shown battling qualities to come from behind to beat both Hull City and Wigan Athletic to open the new season. That might encourage Steve Bruce to give key players the night off, but you would still think they have enough in the squad to see off a Yeovil Town team who have been struggling in recent years. Another slow start will have fans wondering if another battle against relegation is in the offing for Yeovil Town, but at least the players can use the adrenaline boost of facing a Championship club to make this a little more competitive. The fans will want to get on the backs of their more illustrious opponents and see if that can rattle the Aston Villa cages, but ultimately I think the higher League club will have too much. I imagine it will be difficult at times with the line up being unfamiliar with one another, but I will back Aston Villa to find their way to the win and the cover of this Asian Handicap.
