INTRODUCTION

The second semifinal will be between Japanese K. Nishikori and the Serbian N. Djokovic to decide who will play in the final. In the quarterfinal nishikori showed great character to defeat M. Cilic after five sets, while Djokovic defeated Australian J. Millman who had in the previous round defeated Roger Federer.



NISHIKORI

Nishikori has managed to avenged his defeat in the final of the US Open back in 2014 when he defeated Cilic after five sets. The Japanese can certainly be satisfied after what he has achieved to get into the semi finals now. The match was quite uncertain and the advantage was given to the Croatian player. The match started in favour of Cilic and he easily came to a score of 1:0 in sets. After that Nishikori began to play better and constantly put Cilic under pressure on his service which at the end of the second set brought two breaks that eventually evened the scores. The third set was fairly equal, with one break on both sides, while Nishikori exhibited a lot more patience in the tie-break, and he has in the 13th game managed to turn it to his advantage. After the fourth set, Cilic managed to return to the match, but by the fifth set, he has lost his mental strength, and from then onwards Nishikori deservingly won the match.



DJOKOVIC

Djokovic had managed to defeat J. Millman without dropping a set. That ended the dreams of Millman who prior to that had defeated the great Roger Federer in the quarter finals, which was one of the upsets of the US Open no doubt. Despite not dropping a set, it was still not an easy task for Djokovic. He struggled a lot throughout the match it can be said. This can be clearly seen from the sixth game of the first set that lasted 16 minutes. Some sets also took at least half an hour to complete. There were also long points with long exchanges of strong strikes that took the energy from both tennis players until at one moment Millman had to go off court to change his shirt, pants and even shoe due to the amount of sweat he had. Still it can be said that Millman has only once managed to take away the service-game from Djokovic and that happened in the middle of the third set. When he needed to serve when the result was 4:4 he has lost a service again after which Djokovic easily won the match.

They have met a total of 16 times and Djokovic has won 14 times. Djokovic beat Nishikori at Wimbledon at the quarter finals stage by 3:1
