No one is going to be confusing these two American League Central rivals with teams who are chasing Play Off spots, but pride can keep the Chicago White Sox (42-75) and the Detroit Tigers (49-69) focused as we begin a three game set between these teams. The Chicago White Sox have lost five of their last six games which has kept them in 4th place in the American League Central, while they have fallen 7 games behind the 3rd placed Detroit Tigers who have won two of their three games over the weekend. One of the main reasons the White Sox are that many games behind the Tigers has to be the fact they have lost eight of their nine Divisional games against them in 2018. Chicago will be looking to at least get back to winning ways against the Tigers by giving the ball to the Reynaldo Lopez who has a 4-9 record and a 4.30 ERA for the season. That may not be the most impressive win-loss record, but Lopez has been good for the majority of the season and has bounced back from a rough July by producing back to back strong showings on the mound. Lopez has given up three runs in the 14 innings he has pitched across two starts in August and he brings in a 0-1 record and a 2.25 ERA record from this three starts against the Tigers in 2018. Detroit will counter by handing the ball to Artie Lewicki who has a 0-2 record and a 4.76 ERA this season having lost both of the previous starts he has made for the team. There is a spot in the starting rotation which is available and Lewicki will be hoping to do enough to secure that for the rest of the regular season although he will have to be better having allowed seven runs in just under 9 innings pitched in his two starts this season. This will be the first time Lewicki has started against the Chicago White Sox, although he has faced them in relief back in May. On that day Lewicki gave up a single run through 3 innings pitched against the White Sox.



PREDICTION

It would be foolish to ignore the Detroit Tigers dominance over the Chicago White Sox in the 2018 season, but I do think the latter have the superior pitcher going to the mound. That may help Chicago have a rare win over their Divisional rival and I will back them as the underdog.
