INTRODUCTION

No doubt this derby between Real Betis and Sevilla is massive and both sides will have ambitions this season and to at least play in the Europa League next season. For this season both sides are in the Europa League and Sevilla qualified to the group stage through the qualifiers winning all six matches, while Real Betis directly qualified to the group stage. Real Betis started their season with a defeat and a draw, while Sevilla with a win and a draw.



REAL BETIS

Last season they finished higher then Sevilla and won a place directly into the Europa League, but now they started the new season rather poorly. They have yet to win and have yet to score a goal after two matches played. They have managed a point though as last weekend they played a goalless draw with Alaves. In their opening match they were beaten on home soil losing to Levante by 3-0. Thus instead of six points from two matches played they have only one point to show. Something is not right with the team especially in attack. They did not made too much changes in their composition since last season. Only newcomer W. Carvalho started both of their games, while Canales and Inui played against Alaves. Now we are likely to see the same team that played against Alaves play this match.



SEVILLA

Sevilla will be playing the 10th match in the season where they have played six matches in Europa League qualifiers and they managed to win all six matches and conceded only one goal. In the Spanish Super Cup they were beaten by Barcelona by 2-1 and that remains as their only defeat for now. In La Liga they have managed a win and a draw in their two games played so far. In their first match they beat Rayo Vallecano by 4-1, and their new striker An.Silva shined by scoring three goals. In their second match they played a completely different match and drew with Villarreal at home. Coach Machin played with the same side that played their first match against Rayo Vallecano, but they played much weaker and failed to get the win. Against Sigma in the return leg of the Europa League they played with a mixed team and still won by 3-0. Now for this match they will be without the services of Escudero, so this summer's arrival in Arano will come into the starting eleven.
